Digital Painting Portrait

What I've learnt from these few months of practice is that digital paintings look bad at the start.
You know, when you haven't put in the details yet and it all looks like a masquerade. :)

The video below shows my painting progress from start to finish.
The software I used is GIMP; you can get it from here: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Digital Painting Tips:

For some people, digital painting is a nightmare. The following is a few tips on how to improve your skill and save some time. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

1. Paint with a large Canvas: 2000px * 2000px is large enough. Don't go too large so you don't slow your PC down.
2. Put in the details later: Don't start adding every tiny bit of detail from the start of the project. Leave that for later.
3. Know your brushes: There a lot  of brushes out there and they all have different jobs. Take some time to understand the job of the brush you are using. In the project above the airbrush a lot. That is because with it I can add a 'roundness to my painting easily.
